Beijing
History – 3000 BC is the first signs
of life in Beijing the capital of China, which is
now one of the biggest countries in the world. It
has an area of about 9.6 million square kilometres,
which comprises about 6.5 per cent of the world total
land area. The Chinese population of more than one
billion persons accounts for 23 per cent of the entire
world's population. China is the world's oldest continuous
civilization.
In the 12th century the city was rebuilt for the
Jin (Chin) Dynasty. Following in
the 13th century the Yuan dynasty was established
and Beijing, Khanbalik, was the center of all of China.
During World War II from 1937 – 1945 the Japanese
occupied the city, but after the Communist revolution
of 1949, Beijing was designated the capital of the
People's Republic of China.
On the west coast of the Pacific Ocean,
China is situated in the eastern part of Asia. After
Canada and Russia it is the third largest country
in the world and twelve countries share its borders.
It has shown great economic growth since the late
1970’s. It continues to prosper and is said
that it will be the second largest economy in the
year 2030, climbing from its current position of sixth
largest.
Being awarded the 2008 Summer Olympic Games,
in 2001 by the International Olympic Committee was
a huge accomplishment for the city of Beijing. Now
The World Travel Organization predicts that by the
year 2020, China will become the number one travel
destination in the world. Being that Beijing is its
capital more people will see this city than any other
in the year 2020. Perhaps it will be because once
you are there and appreciate the people and culture
you wish to go back over and over again to see, to
taste, to hear and to feel its culture.
